THE END OF "RECORDLAND" (?)

Hey Gang!

As mentioned on the April 30th show, my wife Cherryle received an irresistible job offer from Vancouver Island and, as a result, we will be moving to Victoria on the May long weekend. While I will leave behind copies of some old shows (the Trooper special, the Main Man Records/ Frankenstein 3000 show, the Stony Plain show I will be producing this week) I guess the end of the line is in sight.

I spent half an hour on the phone the other day with Holger Petersen, the owner of Stony Plain Records based out of Edmonton, and host of "Saturday Night Blues" on CBC radio. I will be sharing much of this conversation with you on "Recordland" on May 14th, along with some terrific roots and blues music from the Stony Plain label as well as stuff from Blind Pig, a blues label from the state that Stony Plain distributes in Canada.

So, the "Recordland" show on May 7th will be the last program I will be able to take any requests for- if there's something you'd like to hear on the show, please send me an email asap; recordland@hotmail.com

Though I will leave behind many friends when we leave, I will remain a member of the RRC and will renew my membership annually. This is partly to have a place to put up some cd and dvd reviews, but more because I believe in the Rossland radio Co-op; what it's doing, what it hopes to do, and what it stands for.

With so much of radio these days in the hands of larger companies run by 'bean counters' and homogenized to the point of absurdity, the creative freedom afforded by RRC and people like them/us is more important than ever. Take back the airwaves and put them in the hands of the people where they belong. And to quote one of my favorite obscure radio movies "Pump Up The Volume" starring Christian Slater, "Talk hard!"
See you on Wednesday night.
Cheers!

Big John K.
