FRIDAY APRIL 16 - SUNDAY APRIL 18
Rossland Radio Cooperative (RRC) is inviting the community to visit the new station location in the Rotary Health Centre, 1870 Columbia Ave this weekend. RRC is sharing the building with the food bank and encourage everyone to bring a non-perishable item. Volunteers have logged over 200 hours preparing the space and had a contribution from the Nelson & District Credit Union to assist with the supplies.
“The space looks amazing! It is truly a transformation that you have to see. I’m so impressed with how everyone worked together and I can’t believe how fast the volunteer hours grew,” says Jackie Allard, a volunteer who was coordinating the move.
“We’ve had great community support in the growth of Rossland Radio, “ says Marty Cancilla, RRC Chair, “from K2 Contracting who originally donated space for the first studio four years ago to the United Church who has housed us for the past two years we know our community is behind this initiative. Now our city council has provided a great new home and the city staff have been extremely helpful in this process, we’ve been really excited about this move and this space.”
The community radio station will be hosting a membership drive this weekend and will be broadcasting from 3pm on Friday April 16th to 11pm Sunday April 18th. The station will be open for everyone to drop by. There will be information on how you can participate with the station, from doing your own show, to volunteering with production or administrative tasks. If your feeling really brave join a host for an hour and try out your radio voice - email radio@rosslandradio.com if you're interested.
The main goal of the weekend is to have more members sign up. Membership fees contribute to the majority of the station’s operating expenses and all over Canada they are what keeps a community radio station running. Members will have a chance to win a sweet cruiser bike donated by the NDCU and Revolution.
Rossland Radio Cooperative is a non-profit community radio currently broadcasting with 30 local programs and several syndicated shows; they are a member of the National Community Radio Association and are currently in the process of upgrading from their Developmental License with the CRTC.
